From excavation to construction, below and above the sky
From excavation to construction, below and above the sky (oil and acrylic on canvas, 76cm x 61cm) is one of a pair of paintings that are based on the extraction of materials mined, refined and fashioned for human needs. This links to the industrial activity at Coalbrookdale.
Read ‘Coalbrookdale Foundry, c1870'.
Read ‘Dust'.
'The Quarry Men', Oil on canvas 28 x 34. The transaction between the Wrens Nest stone quarry men and the resulting side product of unearthed fossils, the middle man and the shop traders of Dudley is the subject of my contribution. Collaboration with poet Emma Purshouse has greatly enriched my interpretation of the theme.
Listen and read 'Impressions of the Fossil Trade in Dudley (1845)'.
